Kristen & Ryan | A musical Pabst Theater wedding

July 12, 2010

Kristen & Ryan picked a Milwaukee icon for their June wedding – The Historic Pabst Theater. Built by Frederick Pabst and opened in 1895 the Pabst is one of the best places in town to see and hear live music….and I now know, to get married. The soaring space bathed in rich reds and gold wraps around to cradle the stage and even though the place can seat over a thousand people, Kristen & Ryan’s musical ceremony was intimate and warm.  Having the ceremony at the Pabst was perfectly personal for Ryan & Kristen on several accounts.  They’ve spent countless nights at Pabst concerts, often enjoying the sounds from row K where the sightlines are good and the leg room is abundant. Plus, in his alterna-life Ryan works at a radio station and in turn, with the staff at the Pabst. As Kristen put it to me At one point before even being engaged, Ryan suggested the idea of getting married at the Pabst and we never even considered any other location.

The opportunity to shoot at the Pabst was one I did not take lightly and I invited my friend and colleague photographer Ellen Cook along to make the most of it. There were so many simply lovely images from the ceremony that I’m not posting reception pictures in this sneak peek to make room for more Pabst. Make no mistake, the reception was adorable and rockin’ – cake centerpieces, classic Lakefront Brewery charm – but I can’t bring myself to cut any of these Pabst photos to make room. So without further ado…

Ryan is a talented piano player and the groomsmen joined him in providing the majority of the music during the wedding. Yep, during. With swagger and charm Ryan Miller & the Replacement Level Players played the processional and then Ryan alone romantically played Kristen down the aisle.

I rarely get excited about formals – but with the luscious curves of the house in the background we rocked these. And then Ryan and Kristen trusted me enough to step out onto the roof and I’m so happy they did.

Ryan & Kristen ~ Your day was one of the most personal and thoughtful I’ve ever participated in. Every detail was your own and every action was aimed at expressing how happy you are to be one another’s love. You guys are rock stars to me…and speaking of rock stars, I’ll end with a couple images of you with the band that followed your ceremony with a performance of their own.
