Caitlin & Peter | A Massachusetts Wedding

June 20, 2010

Being in someone’s home to photograph their wedding day is an intimate experience and my introduction to Caitlin & Peter’s life started at the lavender victorian they share on a quiet street close to downtown Northampton, Massachusetts. There, standing between maps of Ireland and beside multiple guitars I couldn’t resist being drawn to the souvenirs and everyday objects of their life. Books, music, travel photographs, more books and more music line the walls and helped me get to know two very sweet, very cool people who met in nursing school and practice taking care of not just their patients, but each other, as well.

At nearby Look Park the ceremony would play out under a gorgeous, bright pavilion with crazy-tall pines for a backdrop. The weather was clear and beautiful and a little luck was on their side. Caitlin’s brother was able to make it in from Afghanistan where he’s serving and she made sure her father was with her in spirit, wearing his wedding ring on a broach attached to her sash. Brothers and sisters performed the readings and a bandmate of Peter’s blessed the day with his guitar and sweet voice.

A bridal party of family members, each woman had her own unique flowers

I see a lot of ring inspections at weddings, but honestly, I’ve never seen the groom’s ring get checked out so thoroughly. I love the look on his face as he gives in and listens to the aahhhs.

Caitlin and Peter opted to spend some time alone and meander about the picturesque landscape of the park before heading up to the reception, also held on the grounds. They held hands, wandered the edge of the pond and even went for a paddle boat ride.

The prairie style Garden Room at Look Park provided a richly wooded room for all the fun of the reception. Jewel-toned hydrangeas and candy caught everyone’s attention and the dancing lasted all night long, led by the new Mr. and Mrs.

Caitlin & Peter ~ the first thing I thought when I met you two was yep, these two are great together. I loved being a part of your day and thank you for introducing me to what is now your one big, happy family.
